The Value of Having an Author Brand
Most recently we have taken our youngest daughter on college tours. We have started out hitting local New Hampshire and New England schools to start. They were most accessible to get to with our difficult winter this year. Doing this taught me so much. I learned an incredible amount of what schools don't offer, what they don't tell you and how their own brands are lacking not only with information but how they are perceived. Driving away from each one I would ask myself, what is that school all about? Then I'd go to their social media threads to find something different. Their messaging wasn't congruent with what the experience on campus was...their messaging was off. It didn't match or send a clear message.
The college tours made me think of so many author's and what they portray to book buyers. Remember, a brand is how you are perceived, not who YOU think you are.
For years we have done an Author Branding Session. It's a day and half long white board day that we map out the entire arc of an author, their messaging, their books, their products, their voice, their language and even dive into their look and feel of what they are. We deliver on the promise of who they are with language and an actual plan of how to get there! Its so incredibly vital in today's cluttered world to be very clear.
Last year we did four of these for clients and the results are quite literally always astounding from million dollar idea's surfacing, to several 'aha moment's' for every author. It's been some of the most rewarding work we have done. You can see what one of the said right here - Jane Ann Craig from out in Utah, who has now become a close friend. Another client last year invested in two sessions, one for him and his wife....his quote afterwards was "you completely nailed it".
We rent out some incredible office space from a local event space that host's major pod-caster's as well as the largest video wall on the East Coast which has shot major commercials for top tier brands like Lamborghini to Stonyfield Yogurts.
Here are a few things you would gain from having a solid Author Brand:
Clarity and focus for your target audience - we'd identify them and where they are as well as how to reach them
Clarity on who you are and what you are communicating
Idea's on creating a revenue stream beyond the book
Assets to grow your business coupled with language that all drives one clear message
Platform growth strategies for all ancillary brand items or touch points as we call them.
